Aranmore Catholic College overcame Thornlie Senior High School 48-12 in their fourth consecutive Combined Schools Competition Open Grand Final victory at Allen Park.
Aranmore started the match on the front foot, taking control of the ball from kick-off and quickly transferring it to their backs to breach Thornlie’s line for an early try.
Whilst Thornlie were able to dominate at scrum time, the first half was all one way traffic with the Aranmore backs able to run in four tries through their precise catch and pass execution to take a 22-0 lead into half time.
The beginning of the second half was dominated by the Thornlie tight five as they were able to keep the ball close.
With the use of their effective pick and drive game Thornlie halved the deficit to 22-12 in the first five minutes to make it anyone’s game.
The Thornlie boys were unable though to maintain the comeback as Aranmore engaged a more expansive game plan and were able to keep the ball away from Thornlie’s pack.
The reigning champions ran in four late tries to take a convincing 36 point win.
